Every Book Cited on This Site: The Shelf
Sortable, and honest about which of these I have read and which I only know at working distance.
Every work cited on this site, and the state of my reading in each one.
The method behind these essays refuses to blur what has been read with what is merely known about. The same rule binds me here. There are three states.
- Read. I have read the work itself, in whole.
- Read as reference. I have read parts of it closely and used them, and I have not read the whole. The parts I leaned on are real reading. The rest of the book is not mine to speak for.
- Working distance. I know it by excerpt, summary, secondary discussion, or reputation. It is here as a pointer for your reading, never as a work I claim to have digested.
A work changes state when I have read it, not when an essay leans on it harder. Sort the table by any column, or filter it to one state at a time.
